Overview/Objective Develop a better understanding of the elements of art (the ingredients to make art) and principles of design (the tools to make art). Students will develop an understanding how to creatively think. Student will develop an understanding of abstract art using elements of art and principles of design.
Assignment:
We'll be drawing a ZenDoodle/ZenTangle by hand on drawing paper or digitally with an art app on the iPad. You may look at ZenDoodle/ZenTangle ideas of patterns online, but do not copy or trace images from the internet. use them as inspiration to help you make patterns.
Hand drawn: start by using your pencil to section off your paper. In the different sections, draw different shapes, lines, patterns.Once your ZenDoodle is completed in pencil, go over it with your Sharpie. Then erase out the pencil lines. You may add color. Take a photo of your ZenDoodle/ZenTangle and submit the image in NEO/Canvas for grading.
Assignment grading is based on technique (your drawing skills), your effort, your creativity, and your time management.
Grading Rubric: 30 points total
• Time, care, effort and creativity put into the assignment (assignment doesn't seem rushed) • Individual art skill development • Student used various lines, shapes, patterns to complete their Zen Doodle • Student did not copy a drawing from the internet • Student sectioned off paper and zen doodled in the different sections or zen doodled within an outline of an animal • Student sketched Zen Doodle in pencil and went over with a fine Sharpie and erased out pencil lines • Student used class time wisely to complete the assignment (stayed on-task and not distracted by devices) • Student submitted assignment in a timely manner
