Stranger Things​ Inspired Image

Objective

Students will create their version of Stranger Things upside down world using Photoshop. 


Procedure

You will be using your own image for this assignment. Take a new photo or use one that you have already taken. Getting the image to the computer in the computer lab: get the image you are using uploaded to Google Drive. Download the image from your Google Drive account to the computer. Open the image in Photoshop. Be sure to save your editing progress.  Save the file onto the desktop so you can find it easier.  



Steps:

• Open your image in Photoshop
• File–New–Photo–8x10 300 DPI Resolution
• Click on your image
• Command C to copy the image
• Click on the blank 8x10
• Command V to paste the image 
• Resize the image to fit at least half the page (Command T to transform) 
• Make a copy of the image layer
• Edit––Transform–Flip Vertical or Horizontal (depending on your image)
• Image–Adjustments–Hue/Saturation or Photo Filters (Mess with the color of the image that is upside down)
• Make a new layer on top to the image layer with the upside down image
• Use the rectangle marque tool to select the upside down image, select that area. 
• Use the brush tool (Opacity of paint at 10-20%) and paint the gritty air in the upside down.  
• Duplicate both image layers. The copy layers: click on the 3 lines in layers box menu. Click on MERGE LAYERS. 
• The two layers should merge together to make one layer.
• Click on the band-aid healing brush tool. Smooth out the line between the original image and the upside down image.  

• Draw your very own creature in the Upside Down realm.
• 
Draw the creature in AutoDesk Sketchbook or ProCreate.• Hand draw the creature first on paper. Build your creature concept. 
Creature development:
Does it have: teeth, fangs, horns, spikes, fur, hair, scales, snout, nostrils, ears, slimy, claws, hooves, paws, tail, several eyes or one eye or no eyes, is it giant or small, does it walk on all fours or walk on two legs, is the creature friendly or vicious?

Write a paragraph (5-7 sentences) about the creature and the world you created.  Write a bit of a backstory of the creature: why is it in the world, what does it want, is it after someone, is it lost, it is exploring, does it want world domination or is it peaceful?


• Save your image. Either print it for grading or upload the file to NEO for grading. 

Stranger Things Grading:
See example image added…

Student used their own images (or mine with permission)
Student hand drew or digital drew their own creature (did not trace an image from the internet)
Original image added in Photoshop composition
Copy of original image was enhanced in SnapSeed to appear eerie/scary and added in Photoshop composition
Edges of original image and enhanced scary image are seamless (used marquee tool with soft edge brush) 
Student wrote 5-7 sentences of a backstory about their original creature they drew/created
Student put effort into assignment
Student’s photoshop and digital art skills continuing to develop
Student used class time wisely to complete assignment
